The 2012 Education Act: the Ministry of Education, Culture and Sport presented the Improvement of the Quality of Education. The implementation of the new Act is expected to start in 2015/2016.

A basic objective of the educational reform is to contribute to the acquisition of key skills by reinforcing the learning of core subjects at all stages.

There is a simplification of curricular development in order to provide sound knowledge of contents guaranteeing the effectiveness of basic skills.

Core subjects, studied every year. The minimum number of hours shall not be less than 50% of the total. Optional subjects, students take at least two. They are included in the minimum number of hours established for the core subjects.

- Spanish Language and Literature
- Valencian Language and Literature ( This is the relevant co-official
Language in the Valencian Region Autonomous Community)
- Mathematics
- First Foreign Language: English.


Specific subjects, studied every year. The minimum number of hours for these areas and those listed below shall not exceed 50% of the total.

French, ICT, Music,

a subject to extend the contents of some of

subjects and a subject from

the set core subjects that has not been taken by the student.

IES Gabriel Miró offers Bilingual Curriculum with

CLIL methodology:

- Mathematics for the academic subjects in English

- Writing Workshop in English.
